We’ve Gone Country

What do two city girls who are used to having the National Mall as a backyard do way out in the burbs?  Like the Alan Jackson song suggests, we’ve gone country!  We’ve had to get creative to come up with some fun activities (there are only so many trips we can make to Target) in our new rural surroundings.  Today, a visit to a fish hatchery that is used to stock the Yellow Breeches Creek and to Children’s Lake in the neighboring town of Boiling Springs.

Morgan loved watching the “big banana fish” (a pretty yellow hybrid trout bred a the hatchery) swim around.  At the lake, we saw a beautiful swan, and Morgan explained that she was the “queen of all the ducks.”  Finally, we surprised a mama duck right off of her nest in the middle of a tree and got to peak at all her eggs.  The scenic drive through the central Pennsylvania farmlands did not disappoint either with an abundance of flowers in bloom and farms that offered views of sheep, llamas, and horses.

All in all, a beautiful day in the country for these two city girls!
